After a career in public education as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in school systems in Kansas and Washington state (1922-1940), Pair served for ten years as director of Gregg College in Chicago. In 1957 he founded Automation Institute of Chicago, the first private business school in the Midwest to offer training in electronic data processing.
